Our actions speak louder than our words and our actions say we do not really care about the amount of money we spend on gasoline to get us where we want to go. If we were really interested in getting greater economy and increasing our mpg we would take steps to make that happen. When was the last time you drove on the highway and stayed within the speed limit? If you do that, you are close to being the slowest vehicle on the road. The fact is you will get better economy and see greater savings if you slow down a little. Everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere as quickly as possible. We are driven by the urgent to get to our next appointment, meeting, or whatever it might be. There is a constant adrenaline rush that keeps us living on the edge. Look at all the coffee that is consumed and the number of places that provide the convenience of the drive-through experience just to make sure that we stay at that hyped-up level, even as we drive. We are always in such a hurry that we push the accelerator a little harder to make up for the delay of the last stoplight and to get ahead of the vehicle next to us. issues like checking your tire pressure to make sure that they are properly inflated as a high enough prioity to do it. Even though there is the possibility they could spend less money on gasoline if they did. Underinflated tires will decrease economy and will cost you more when you fill your gas tank. The same is true about checking to make sure the air filter is not dirty. Maintanence issues often get set aside until they create a situation that is as least as urgent as other issues effecting daily life.

People do not take action to reduce the money they spend on gasoline because it is just not convenient and it would mean making a commitment and following through to ensure that it would happen. It takes effort and time to properly maintain your car, change the air filter, check your tire pressure, reduce the weight your vehicle is carrying (including the removal of ice and snow before you leave your driveway), plan your trips ahead, and walk more to reduce gasoline consumption. People have to be prepared to follow through on the things that they know will bring about the desired results before it will happen. Do you want to reduce the money you spend on gasoline? Do something about it, beyond whining about high prices at the gas pumps. Do the things that have been proven to save you money. Investigate the advantages of new technology that is becoming available and make use of it when and where you can. You can make a difference and reduce the money you spend on gasoline if you want to!
